Chief Justin Johnson has proudly served the Central Berks Community since 2001. In February 2026, then-Deputy Chief Johnson was honored to take on the role of Chief of Police continuing his longstanding commitment to Central Berks Regional Police Department.
Throughout his career, Chief Johnson has remained committed to the principles of integrity, professionalism, accountability, and respect for all. He believes effective policing is built on trust, strong relationships, and a genuine commitment to the people we serve.
As Chief, he is dedicated to leading the Central Berks Regional Police Department with fairness and transparency while supporting the officers who work each day to keep our community safe. Chief Johnson believes in being accessible to the community, fostering positive partnerships, and continually working to strengthen the relationship between law enforcement and the residents we serve.
Department Personnel
The Central Berks Regional Police Department includes 22 sworn law enforcement officers and one civilian that provides 24/7 police coverage to the residents of Lower Alsace Township, Mount Penn Borough, Oley Township, and St. Lawrence Borough. Collectively we serve a population of over 13,000 residents across a 30 square mile region of Berks County. Our patrol officers are assigned to four squads. Our patrol division’s primary duty is to respond to calls for service along with traffic enforcement, but some of our officers are also involved in various community policing programs. We have a contracted school resource officer at Oley School District and at Antietam School District.
The Central Berks Regional Police Department also has a criminal investigation division, which consists of one Detective Sergeant, one Narcotics Investigator, and one Criminal Detective. The Detective Sergeant and Criminal Detective handle all criminal cases that require further investigation beyond an initial report taken by the patrol division. Examples of cases handled by the criminal investigation division are: homicides, assaults, sexual offenses, burglaries, robberies, credit card frauds, identity theft, and etc. The Narcotics Investigator handles all drug-related cases. The Central Berks Regional Police Department also has an Accident Reconstruction Unit and Bike Patrol Unit.
